Collectively Bargained Workers' Compensation (CBWC)
SeaBright is one of the few specialty workers' compensation insurance carriers that offer CBWC solutions to employers with union contracts. Our alternative dispute resolution (ADR) program is available in every state1 that has a CBWC program authorized by its legislature, approved by its insurance regulator, and open to all insurance carriers.
Claims processed under SeaBright ADR programs consistently outperform conventionally processed claims in several areas. Compared with the conventional (statutory) claims process in California (California claims represent 20 percent of the U.S. market) our ADR program results in2:
- 60 percent less attorney involvement
- 40.3 percent fewer open claims days
- 20.2 percent less cost per claim
In addition to improving cost per claim, time to resolution, and rate of attorney involvement, SeaBright CBWC insurance policies include the same expert claims management, loss control, and medical management services that attend all our workers' compensation policies.

1 11 states have CBWC programs that have been authorized by their legislatures and approved by state regulators: California, Maryland, Massachusetts, Florida, Minnesota, Nevada, Hawaii, New York, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Maine. So far, however, only five of these states have open ADR programs in which insurance carriers participate: California, Hawaii, Maryland, Minnesota, and Florida. SeaBright Insurance Company participates in all five.
